Fri. 2/8/13 Presentation

Bloomington REI — Hiking Beyond Copper Canyon, Mexico

Date:  Friday, February 8, 2013
Event Location: Bloomington REI
Event Fee: Free
Time: 6:30 – 7:30 PM CST
Presenter: Lee and Polly Keith Scotland

Description: Join author, Polly Keith Scotland and her husband photographer Lee Scotland, to hear their exciting travel stories. Including a Copper Canyon trip where recent bandito attacks forced them to take an alternate route in the region between Urique and Batopilas. “Don’t Go! It’s too dangerous!” These were the pleas from their friends when they told them they would be hiking the  Copper Canyon area of Mexico. A vigorous 4 day trek between the remote cities of Urique and Batopilas gives exceptional insight into the ways of the native Tarahumara (Raramuri) citizens. This presentation is just one of the many “out-there” adventure stories featured in her book, “By Foot, Pedal, or Paddle.” As a former fight attendant and travel cruise escort, Polly has found her most remarkable travel excursions involve hiking 14-ers with blistered feet, biking strength-sapping mountain passes, or heading into the whitecaps of Lake Superior. Polly’s book takes the reader to such places as Iceland, Alaska, Canada, and Chile–with many stops in between. Join them for this presentation to hear their stories first hand. Book Signing – 4:30pm – 6:30pm, Presentation – 6:30pm -7:30pm.

Favorite Sentence

Andy Keith wrote, “I have recently finished reading Polly Keith Scotland’s book, ‘By Foot, Pedal, or Paddle’. I remember the author, Polly, told me once that she and her Book Baguettes [Book Club] always share their favorite sentence from the book they are reading together. I too thought it would be a good idea to continue this tradition, so here is my entry…

‘Oh those beautiful burros’! [From “Beyond Copper Canyon]
Thanks for all the entertaining, informative and just plain enjoyable stories Polly, and LEE!!!
Thanks for bringing me along too…Andy
